Paul, Weiss partner appointed acting antitrust chief

By Jeffrey May, J.D.

Andrew C. Finch, a litigation partner in the New York office of Paul, Weiss has been tapped to replace Brent Snyder as acting assistant attorney general in charge of the Department of Justice Antitrust Division. Finch, a veteran of the Antitrust Division, will start at the Justice Department on April 10, a Justice Department spokesperson confirmed today.

Prior to joining Paul, Weis in 2005, Finch worked at the Antitrust Division, serving as counsel to the assistant attorney general. According to the Justice Department, Finch brings to the agency "extensive litigation and counseling experience on antitrust and a wide variety of other issues, both civil and criminal."

Finch was at the Justice Department at the same time as Makan Delrahim, who is the nominee to fill the antitrust chief position. In the George W. Bush Administration, Delrahim served as deputy assistant attorney general in the Antitrust Division.

President Trump announced his intention to nominate Delrahim to serve as assistant attorney general for antitrust on March 27. As of publication, Delrahim’s nomination had not yet been received by the Senate. Consequently, Finch could be in the acting role for some time as Delrahim awaits Senate confirmation. Upon confirmation by the Senate of the assistant attorney general, Finch will serve as principal deputy assistant attorney general.

Among other projects at the Antitrust Division, Finch was a contributor to an October 2004 Department of Justice Task Force on Intellectual Property Report. In addition, he was involved in the joint FTC/Justice Department report, entitled Federal Trade Commission titled Antitrust Enforcement and Intellectual Property Rights: Promoting Innovation and Competition.

Finch is active in the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago School of Law.

Attorneys: Andrew C. Finch (Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP).
